Dr. Josh Barker is a Research Director at MMR Strategy Group. He is an experienced quantitative social science researcher with a background in survey research, qualitative methodologies, consumer behavior, and statistical analyses.
Josh’s research has focused on testing the effectiveness of public health messaging. At the University of North Carolina’s Tobacco Center for Regulatory Sciences, he has presented research on quantitative assessment of health campaign effectiveness, as well as analyzing consumer motivations for accepting persuasive messages. At the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, he analyzed large-scale social media data to inform tobacco regulatory efforts. His research has been published in Health Communications, Tobacco Control, Journal of Communication, and Substance Use and Misuse, among others.
Before joining MMR Strategy Group, Josh taught Advertising and Public Relations Research Methods at UNC and Behavioral Health Research Methods at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Josh earned his Ph.D. in Media and Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
